I have no words to describe how I enjoy from your work, this incredibly beautiful piece included... Thank you, master, for all that pieces of soul of yours that you have shared (And will share) with us. I allowed myself the freedom to share this work in a humble journal. I hope you don't mind.
Oh, I do enjoy a lot with your Blizzard art, no doubt, but your personal one has... don't know how to explain it, a different "magic". I'm not professional so I can't opine, but I love to doodle... and when there is no more limits and/or restrains to your imagination and creativity that the ones you put to yourself, then we can say those personal works contains an important part of your own being. They are YOU more than ever, if it makes sense. (I'm not a native speaker so I hope I'm not writing a total non-sense here. It's hard to explain in a foreign language. ) So yes, I love your personal work...
I understand you completely. Thank you again for the love.
Art wise, people sometimes think an Art Director gets to do whatever they want. Totally not the case. With Blizz work, there is a history, lore, fanbase, etc. that has to be considered with every piece of art I/we do. We want evolution but di bit want to deviate too much from what we have established. It would not be respectfull to the worlds we've created or to the fans of the lore and art. We had done pretty well with this I believe. Some will disagree.
With my own art, it is completely my own call and I create whatever makes me happy. Eventually if/when my stories and art get more of a fan base I will need to do the same thing. But then I will always be creating new properties so I will always have a pristine paper/screen to create on.
thanks a lot mate she was heavily inspired by my beautiful norwegian gf, my fav RL viking shieldmaiden also we've just started venturing into Draenor now thanks for all the beautiful work you did all these years
Wow awesome work ! I am a huge fan of you since I see your Lothar concept in the warcraft 2 manual... something like 40 years ago right ? I was here when the Sons of the Storm were born and now here when you born on deviant art ! Well, it would be great to see this kind of stuff on your art print website... 14 pages of awesome art here, and only 15-20 pictures available to print ? WHY ? WHY ?????
The only prints I can sell are images I have done for Blizzard as a freelance artist. Stuff I do on the side, outside of my normal day job at Blizz. So it is only the art for TCGs and other things outside of Blizz that I can make prints of. And I think I did the Lothar pic 50 years ago. : )
Seeing new stuff from you reminds me of the days when I was discovering drawing, and how much of a punch your images packed each time I saw a new one. Back then, I had no access to internet, just some monthly gaming mags, and each time, I hoped to find inside an article of a Blizz game with artwork attached. Today it's a bit different because of all the visual information we have access to, and it kinda dilutes the effect of each image in particular.
But I'm glad I caught those times too, they brought a lot of inspiration to my childhood. The kid back then would never believe me if I time travelled to tell him how many cool things he'll have access too, and that he'll casually write messages to Samwise like it ain't no thang, haha.
Ha, thanks for the kind words. Yeah, I too remember finding rare or previously unseen art or music from my favorite artists and bands. Now it is all at our fingertips. Only downside is we lost some of the feeling upon discovering a random bootleg album or archaic art book at some obscure store. A small price to pay but still miss that feeling too.
